Contemporary World History
- Describe the circumstances surrounding the construction of the Berlin Wall
- Explain why the Cold War ended
- Discuss powerful world leaders and their roles in the Berlin Wall and the Cold War.
-Describe the purpose of the policy of containment.
-Define and use key terms such as bankruptcy, Cold War, communism, containment, exodus, and repression.

World History (Expanding our relm of knowledge)
August 14, 2019, students will get to know me and each other for the first three days of school. Also students will learn all the rules and regulations of the school and the class management rules in my class. There will be a syllabus that you will have to sign and return, which has all the information about grades, scores, etc.. Thank you for trusting me with you child's education and I will to the best of my ability make sure they learn.
August 19, 2019, students will take a Pre-Test in World History. This test will give information on how to approach teaching the students the content needed for them to succeed in my class. Now, this same test will be administered at the end of the year to see what progress has been made. I will teach some of the same material in the test doing the year as well

8th Grade World History: World History is the study of historic relationships of Continents, Regions, Countries, Cultures and the emergence of civilization.
Topics will include the following:
Agricultural Revolution, Ancient Summer and Mesopotamia, Egypt anf Kush, Israel & Middle East, India, China, Meso and South America, Greece and Rome
Grades: Grades can be followed regularly through Portal. The school grading scale is as follows:
Assignments/Quizzes: Students will be given assignments, homework and/or quizzes on each unit covered. Class notes may be used as study guides. Projects of various sizes will be assigned throughout the year.
Homework: Homework assignments will be given periodically. Homework is due the next time the student comes to my class. I will accept homework 1 day late for partial credit.
Extra Credit: Students will be given the opportunity to earn extra credit at least once each grading period. Students are strongly advised to take advantage of any extra credit offered. Students will not be given extra credit just because they need to bring up their grade.
Materials Needed: Students are responsible for providing the following:
Projects may be assigned during the course of the school year, which may require additional materials. If there are any reasons why you are unable to obtain these materials, please see Mr. Dutton.
All school rules will be adhered to. Classroom expectations support those rules already in place.
Mr. Dutton’s Classroom Rules
Detentions: It may become necessary to assign your student lunch or afterschool detention for repeated violation of classroom expectations or school rules. Parent contact will be made and a date will be determined for a parent teacher conference. Parents will be responsible for providing transportation from detention. If undesired behavior(s) continue, a referral will be written to Administration office.

1-Whisper
2-Conversational Tones
3-Outside Voice (inappropriate for classroom)
When Mr. Dutton wants to get students’ attention, his hand will go straight into the air or stand patiently looking at class behavior. This will be the signal for SILENCE.
Taking a test or quiz:
Restroom Policy: Students will be permitted to use the restroom in the morning when they arrive at school, before class, and during or after lunch. It is recommended that students adhere to restroom policy, as they are given 3 minutes between each class.

- Pencils
- Composition Notebooks. They will be required to keep it in the classroom
- A package of loose leaf notebook paper as well.
- Markers
- Glue Stick
- Optional, but greatly appreciated: Disinfection Wipes, Tissues, and Hand Sanitizer

- Mr. Dutton’s desk area is private, please don’t remove anything without permission
- Remain in your area unless given permission
- Follow directions the first time given
- Help create a pleasant atmosphere (“No Debating with Teacher,” no tapping on desks, say “please” and “thank you”, if it doesn’t belong to you, don’t touch it)
- Come to class prepared, prompt, and ready to participate
- No gum, candy, food, or drinks
- No electronics
- Bell does not dismiss, teacher does
- No talking during announcements
- Backpacks are to be on the back of chair or on the floor

- Desk is clear of all materials except pencil.
- No talking until everyone is finished with the test. If student chooses to talk during the test, a ZERO will be assigned, regardless of whether or not the test has already been turned in.
- No cheating. Cheating will result in a zero on the test/quiz.
Restroom Policy: Students will be permitted to use the restroom in the morning when they arrive at school, before class, and during or after lunch. It is recommended that students adhere to restroom policy, as they are given 3 minutes between each class.
Keys to success in Mr. Dutton’s class:
- Stay on task and participate during class activities and discussions
- Follow classroom expectations
- Complete and submit all work when it is due
- Study for tests
- Do your best on all work every time
